Closet Sneak Peek

I’m still working on the closet. I had two exams this week, a ton of homework, and lots of large orders so it’s been slow going. I didn’t get nearly as much done while Cody was gone as I thought I would, but that’s okay :)

I purged a bunch of clothing from my stuff. I still need to finish hanging things and sorting and adding shelves etc. Oh and finish painting since I ran out of paint in the area behind the skirts and dresses.

It’s a good project though. Can’t wait to see it finished.

Buttons for Monty

My friend Monty (aka Montague Jacques Fromage as he is known in the con scene) emailed and asked for a rush order of buttons to help promote his new steamfunk music. I accepted the challenge and rushed to fill the large order.

They shipped out today, all 600(!) of them. You can find them at the Steampunk World’s Fair in NJ this weekend. It’s sure to be a lovely time!

Nursery turned Closet

My house (like many old houses) has a bit of a weird layout. You have to walk through a small room to get to the master bedroom. The master bedroom is an addition to the house that was made 20 to30 years after the house was originally built and the small room was apparently the nursery.

We are not ever having more children so the nursery thing was out

It’s been an office for geek details and then a half office/half closet. It’s always been too full of stuff and the color was really dark for that room. Now that oldest has his own room upstairs and Cody has moved out to the little room that is the office/guest room… I decided this room would be ALL closet. First order of business? Painting.

I’m still working on the room. I need Cody to figure out the cable situation, I need to finish painting, hang up Cody’s closet rod stuff, and buy a rug. It’s look less dark though.

The color is from Valspar (Lowes) and is a pale blue/gray. Like practically white, but not. It shows off the clothing well and makes the room brighter. Even though my closet room isn’t finished, I’m so much happier with it. Everything is neatly organized and the room isn’t a clusterfuck of doom any more.

More photos when I’m done!

Oil Based Floor Paint

The attic bedroom floor was in pretty bad condition when we removed the carpet. The carpet was about 40 years old and cobble stone orange shag (yuck). The wood floor had a giant hole in it and the floor was beat to hell. The walls weren’t much better so we painted them.

So I painted it with oil base porch paint from Lowes. I bought the Betsy Ross Brown House historic color and loved it. The glossy paint really makes it look sooo much better!

He’s still moving in to it, but we’re all much happier. He loves the new room, Cody likes his new office, and I adore my new nursery sized closet

Chaperoning 120 6th Graders

Chaperoning 120 6th Graders isn’t as bad as it might sound. Sure, I was nauseous on the bus ride down and back, the aquarium wasn’t anything special, and some of the kids were absolute turds, BUT I spent the day with my kid and he’s pretty awesome.

It’s okay that my kid is almost as tall as me and half his classmates are taller than me. I’m used to being the short one… even when among 6th graders. They were great though and I hope I get to do it again :)
