Yay Business Cards

I received my business cards in the mail today and I love the way they turned out. I had heard some horror stories about vistaprint.com, but I was happy with my product.
Tomorrow I’m going to the base craft store and asking them to make me a stamp of my logo. I plan on stamping the back of my paper products with my stamp in versamark ink. Versamark gives a watermark to the product, puts the info on the product, but it’s blatantly there either.

After all that is done, I made even more stuff. I have some sets of cards that I’m almost done creating. I also made some more notebooks. One is 8 x 10 size and features photos I took while living in Japan. The other book is made of an “upcycled” Dr. Suess book called “Oh the thinks you can think.” It turned out super cute too and now the neighbor wants one. I may have to find a source for more books to do more of those style of notebooks.
I still have a ton of things to add to my store and I think the most frustrating part of etsy is doing a good listing. When you have so many items to list (and I’ve been hoarding items before I started my store), it can get a little discouraging to sit and list basically the same item over and over and have to keep typing everything out, pick out materials, tags etc. I’ll have to troll the etsy forums to see if there’s a way to clone a listing or something.

Aside from still being sick, it’s a good day. If I don’t post during the next couple weeks, send the po-po to arrest my husband. I rearranged the house again (photos of that later) and he may kill me when he gets home.

More Stuff

I felt extra creative this week and made a ton of stuff. I made quite a few notebooks and some cards. I also found various bottles to paint on.

After I had all this stuff cluttering up my desk, I decided to take over a closet we rarely use. My husband had put shelves in it once upon a time and they’re perfect for “inventory.” So I stuffed everything I use in making my etsy stuff in to that closet.  I hope to get things moving out of there on a regular basis and I’m planning on filling it up slowly so that I have a nice batch of stuff to take to the local craft fair.

New Stuff

I worked on some cards and notebooks this week. They were kind of mindlessly fun to do.

Pick your Poison

Just a couple of things I made recently. I plan on using the platter to serve drinks on. Or sell it…. It’s listed at geekdetails.etsy.com, but I’d be just as happy keeping it.

More stuff for the Shop

I have had so much fun last night and today creating new stuff. It’s been a bit of a rush to look at the things that *I* hand made. Truly awesome

Okay, so here’s this vase thing I made today. It’s based off of a comic book dude that I just couldn’t quit laughing at. It says “Castor oil…. that reminds me of something.”

Some button magnets

My pride and joy: The brain cake stand. It says “eat your brains” in french and was inspired by a song by Jonathan Coulton. If you don’t know who JoCo is, you’re really missing out on a fabulous artist.

And some packages of envelopes I handmade. Each package has 5 envelopes that measure 4 1/4 by 3 1/2. Notice the little g logo? That’s my new logo for all my packaging. Yes, that’s right. *I* have packaging and a logo now. ZOMG. It looks so much more professional this way.

A portal cake stand

I painted this awesome cake stand. It’s a fairly good sized cake stand and now it’s just a little geekier. It’s fairly heavy because it’s from Martha Stewart’s collection and she usually has nice quality items.

Anyway I love it.

Cake Stands

I hope to be adding these to the store soon. I have various glass cake stands with domes that I’ll be decorating and adding to the store.

I’ve almost completed the first one. It’s a fairly good sized Martha Stewart cake stand and it’s pretty heavy. I’m doing a “portal” theme on it and it literally made my husband laugh out loud.

I have ideas for other cake stands, I just need to go buy some for me to decorate. They’ll be subtly geeky, but geeky all the same

New Items

I’ve been trying to do something related to my store every day. In the last several days, I’ve made more calendars, buttons, magnets, and coasters. I realize now that for me, making the stuff is easy, it’s the photos and listing that are harder for me.

The reason I find the listing things difficult are plenty. I hate having to price my stuff. I get most of my supplies fairly cheap because I’m a thifty person. Do I list things based on what *I* paid for materials or the actual value of my materials. Do I list things that are more in line with other people’s prices? I list lower if I feel they overvalued their work or will that make me seem like I’m lowballing in order to get sales? How much do I charge for shipping? How much of a blurb does each item need about it? How many photos should I put up?

It’s just so much more work to *actually* list items then it is for me to create those same items.

On that note, I have made a ton of stuff. I have oh 90 buttons or so to list. I also have a handful of magnets to list and a stack of coasters as well. I’m in the process of working on other items besides my three staples right now. I have to test them out before I feel comfortable selling them though.

And with that, I give you photos

Etsy store

I finally bit the bullet and opened an etsy store. It’s at www.geekdetails.etsy.com

I’ve already had a couple sales which made me pretty happy. I don’t have very many items in stock any more so I guess I better get my rump in gear and start listing more of the stuff I already finished.

Coasters

I started making some coasters for myself and ended up making some for the neighbor as well. Mine are all comic book themed, hers are Buffy the Vampire Slayer themed. I don’t even *like* buffy and I wanted to keep her coasters for myself.

Naturally this means I was too excited to give them to her and forgot to take a photo.

I’ll just have to post a picture of some of mine instead.
