Heavy Weight Textured “Belgian Linen” Drapes

I saw these lovely curtains at restoration hardware and knew they’d go well with the house. I needed the 108 inch long ones and at $189 a piece, they were a little out of my price range. I noticed that the linen variety looked an awful lot like the canvas drop cloth fabric I’d picked up at Lowes. For $11ish, I bought one 6 ft by 9 ft canvas which makes my little curtain project only $22. Way better than any curtains I’ve even thought about buying. So the other day I showed you how my back living room looked with a new roller shade and the old curtains that are too busy for that space.

All you need to do is hang them up. Easy peasy :) I washed mine and I don’t recommend it unless you need your curtains to be significantly shorter. It takes a window from looking bleh to looking a little more neo victorian or steampunk. I love the raw linen texture of the new “curtains” and the minimal amount of work it took to do them :)

Restoration Hardware ish Lamp

I picked up this lamp the other day because despite its brassy color, it reminded me of a restoration hardware lamp I’d seen while shopping with Jordan’s mom and it was only $10. I knew a coat of spray paint would fix it right up.

I taped the base of the cord near the lamp with electrical tape and then applied several light coats of a high quality oil rubbed bronze spray paint. This spray paint has a little bit of sparkle in it so it’s no so flat. After allowing the lamp to dry to the touch outside, I moved it inside to the back living room.

I like it :) It’s not a dead ringer for the restoration hardware one, but it’s good enough.

Also, you can see a bit of the coffee table project I’m working on and the temporary fan I had in the living room until the new fan was installed.

Vintage chair

I found this pretty vintage chair today while thrift store shopping. It was a steal at $15. I’ll probably reupholster it at some point but I’ll wait until I’m done with the couch.

I’m replacing the coffee table soon by making a new one. I’m also looking for a little round side table. I’m hunting down a rug for that area eventually. You know, stuff. Constantly changing stuff. Because that’s what I do.

Spiffing up

I’ve been a little stressed lately (classes, learning German, business, sickness etc) and my house usually reflects the state of mind I’m in. In my case, it started to look a bit messy. Just random stuff around the house out of place and cluttered.

I did some minor changes to the book shelves and I’m still working on the rest of the room. I’m touching up paint areas that were never finished, moving some art around, adding plants etc. Just little changes. For now though, the book case looks kinda like this

Fondue Night

The UCM foreign language group had a dinner thing at a local restaurant called “la sous terre” and for $20, I could go it three courses of fondue. Homemade marshmallows dipped in chocolate? Yes please! Cody went with me and we had a lovely little date night without the children. Cheese fondue, entree, chocolate fondue and a bottle of wine. Lovely company there and the service was good.

geek details

I felt a little weird wearing the purple skirt without a corset because normally I just wear it at conventions. As you can see, I’m still working on the front living room. Slow and steady. Slow and steady :)
